This pilot study evaluates the value of long-read sequencing technologies for better characterizing microbial communities and antibiotic resistance genes present in wastewater, before and after treatment.
It aims to compare the quality of the data obtained across different sample types and treatment stages in order to optimize analysis and sequencing conditions. The study will also explore the ability of this approach to provide new insights into the presence, genetic carriers, and potential spread of antibiotic resistance genes within microbial communities.
The results will help assess the relevance of long-read metagenomics for monitoring antibiotic resistance in aquatic environments and studying its fate throughout treatment processes
