The human stomach has long been considered a sterile organ because of its acidity. However studies have shown that it harbors a complex community of microorganisms comprising, fungi, viruses, and other microorganisms know as the gastric microbiota. Among these microorganisms, Helicobacter pylori is the most studied species due to its involvement in chronic gastritis, gastro duodenal ulcers, and gastric cancer. However, recent studies show that other microorganisms may also play a role in the development and progression of gastric diseases. The composition of the gastric microbiota is influenced by several factors, including diet, medication, the condition of the gastic mucosa, and the presence of Helicobacter pylori. In this study, patients with Helicobacter pylori infection confirmed by Real Time PCR were selected to explore the association between this infection and the composition of the gastric bacterial microbiota and mycobiota through sequencing of 16S rRNA and ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) regions.
