Bacteria have evolved an impressive arsenal of arms to fight the deadly action of bacterial viruses, called bacteriophages. We have identified a novel anti-phage system for which we are trying to identify the molecular mechanisms of action. To do so we have isolated phages that resist the identified anti-phage system. The identification of the mutations found in this what we call “escapers” will give us some information on the mechanisms of action of this defence system.
