MINT is a research project led by the Pasteur Institute of New Caledonia. This project aims to study the interactions between Wolbachia and the mosquito microbiota and their effects on the mosquito’s ability to transmit the dengue virus.
This project is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) and is being conducted in collaboration with the Pasteur Institute in Paris, the University of New Caledonia, and Monash University in Melbourne.
To implement this project, Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, both infected and uninfected with Wolbachia bacteria, will be collected. The mosquito microbiota will then be sequenced to determine whether the presence of Wolbachia alters its composition and to assess the ability of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, infected or uninfected with Wolbachia, to transmit the dengue virus.
