M. africanum L5 strains carry a mutated phoR gene but surprisingly express some functions controlled by PhoPR to the same level as MTB. Here we aim to identify and to characterize the compensatory mechanisms used by these strains to circumvent their altered phoR allele. To this end, we will use whole-genome sequencing and RNAseq approaches on several strains from the MTB complex to decipher these mechanisms.
