Project context and summary:

We aim to use a metabarcoding approach targeting a portion of the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt b) gene to detect and identify co-infections by multiple Plasmodium species in non-human primates. This method enables sensitive and unbiased amplification of parasitic DNA present in the samples, allowing for the simultaneous detection of different Plasmodium species within a single host.
