Project context and summary:

Leptospires encompass free-living and pathogenic environmental species that are exposed to endogenous and exogenous reactive oxygen species. The adaptation to oxidative stress has been thoroughly characterized in pathogenic Leptospira species but mechanisms involved in this adaptive response are unknown in saprophytic Leptospira, given that they possess different repertoire of oxidative stress-related factors. Our aim is to identify the factors that participate in the defense of saprophytic Leptospira against oxidants.
