Leptospira, the spirochaete causing leptospirosis, can be classified into around 300 antigenically distinct serovars. Interestingly, a number of known serovar–host associations have been pinpointed, leading to the concept of serovar adaptation and chronicity of infection for particular hosts but without clear evidence. In this project, we will characterize two distinct serovars of Leptospira interrogans. A RNAseq approach will be conducted to compare genome-wide gene expression between these two serovars.
