In our group, we are interested in diversity and evolution in cell envelope in both bacteria and archaea. One of our models are archaea that have a cell wall made of peptidoglycan (PG). The majority of components involved in the synthesis and homeostasis of the PG cell wall in archea are unknown. My project has the aim of identifying these components using phenotypic screens following antibiotic treatment known to disrupt the cell wall. We have already established the MICs of different compounds and we now want to gather transcriptomic data to see shifts in gene expression, which may identify potential candidates.
