Project context and summary:

The enzyme Lgt catalyses the first committed step in the lipoprotein modification pathway. It is essential for bacterial physiology, viability and pathogenicity. We are studying the molecular mechanism of this enzyme in the pathogenic bacterium Helicobacter pylori that colonizes the human stomach leading to gastric infections. Our goal is to determine how fatty acid acylation by Lgt of lipoproteins plays a role in virulence.
