Project context and summary:

Metabolic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity represent a growing public health problem world-wide. The high heterogeneity of the etiology of these diseases and their susceptibility to complications may be explained by the interaction of genetic and environmental factors (dietary practices and physical activity). Intestinal microbiota may play an important role in the pathogenesis of T2D and obesity. It ensures vital functions, produces metabolites acting as anti-inflammatory and increases insulin sensitivity.
The aim of the present project is to perform Whole metagenomic shotgun sequencing for 100 Tunisian patients (diabetes and obesity) and controls in order to identify microbiota species associated with metabolic diseases in the Tunisian population.
The period of the project is from October 2023 to December 2025
