Project context and summary:

β-Defensins are host defense peptides controlling infections in species ranging from humans to invertebrates. Repetitive incubations of S. aureus strains with on oyster defensin BigDef1 leads to development of resistance to this defensin. Our aim is to examine whether this resistance is accompanied by specific gene mutations in S. aureus strains.
