Project context and summary: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most common metabolic complications of pregnancy, characterized by glucose intolerance diagnosed during the second or third trimester. It poses significant short- and long-term health risks for both the mother and the offspring, notably increasing the future risk of type 2 diabetes and metabolic disorders.
Gut microbiota is increasingly recognized as a key environmental factor influencing host metabolism.
The main objective of this study is to identify specific microbial signatures and alterations associated with gestational diabetes paving the way for better understanding, prevention, and future microbiota-targeted interventions.
Whole shotgun sequencing will be performed for 87 samples of Microbial DNA.
