Project context and summary:

Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron is a major anaerobe member of the human intestinal microbiota that often forms biofilm-like communities but the microbial functions involved in B. thetaiotaomicron biofilm formation and their contribution to gut microbiota establishment and maintenance are still poorly known.

The laboratory recently showed that biofilm requires the production and then degradation of extracellular DNA (eDNA), a common component identified in many bacterial biofilm matrix. The objective of this project is to better understand the origin and the nature of the eDNA found in B. thetaiotaomicron biofilm.
